VHRU@Purdue Revealed
Welcome to the Visitor Harassment Research Unit (VHRU) at Purdue Website! Happy you took the time to visitor our website. Hope you find the contents useful. There are six important things about the VHRU and its website you should know.
- First, VHRU is a research cluster dedicated to understanding and finding effective solutions to the problem of tourist harassment around the world.
- Second, the Unit’s home is in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Purdue which is located in the Midwestern state of Indiana in the United States.
- Third, the Unit was established in August of 2017.
- Fourth, while visitors experience different forms of harassment at tourist destinations (such as sexual, institutional and trader harassment) the focus of the research unit, and by extension this website, is on the harassment of visitors by micro-traders at tourist destinations (such as by local craft traders, various small transport providers and tour guides to name a few).
- Fifth, the primary goal of this website is to share some of the latest research and publications on visitor harassment around the world.
- Finally, the groups that should find this website useful include: tourism leaders and policy makers from affected territories; visitor harassment researchers and scholars and the travelling public at large.
That is it. Thanks again for visiting! Now you know who we are and what we do. Please let us know how we can better serve you by emailing me, Dr. Annmarie Nicely, at ajnicely@purdue.edu .
