Boilermaker 5K, half-marathon support social wellness, more

As part of the Healthy Boiler Program, Human Resources offers discounted entry fees to both the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and 5K as well as the Boilermaker 5K and Half-Marathon  events. We know these events support the behavioral health, financial wellness and physical health pillars of the Healthy Boiler Program, they also directly align with the social wellness pillar by offering an opportunity to bring people together to run and walk, either competitively or just for fun!

According to Lindsay Bloom, health coach at Purdue Fort Wayne, participating in events like the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and 5K and the Boilermaker 5K and Half-Marathon, provide social health benefits to adults and kids.

“Events like these offer opportunities for social interaction for people of all ages, which can help decrease feelings of loneliness and also create a feeling of community,” Bloom said.

Also, Purdue health coaches can assist runners and walkers in setting goals and preparing for the events. You can schedule a walking health coach appointment as an added bonus or connect telephonically for added convenience. Purdue health coaches serve all benefits-eligible employees, regardless of what campus they are on.

To schedule with a health coach (Cheryl Laszynski or Whitney Soto) at the Center for Healthy Living (CHL) on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, call 765-494-0111 or use the CHL portal. To schedule with Bloom, call 260-481-6651 or email lmbloom@pfw.edu.
