Statistics Research

Statistical Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics is an evolving science that is most recently defined as the generation, organization, and analysis of biological data.

Computational Finance

It provides students the mathematical and statistical theory and tools, the computational experience, and the financial knowledge that are the basis of today's investment finance industry, including derivative pricing, portfolio management, risk management, and their associated numerical methods.

Climate Change and Computational Science

This research group develops novel statistical theory and methods for the study in climate and environment, and carries out interdisciplinary research.

Machine and Statistical Learning

Current research includes contributions to the fields of computational statistics, data visualization, information retrieval, learning in privacy and security, text analysis, relational learning, computational biology, and network traffic analysis.

Statistical Consulting

Statistical Software Consulting provides assistance with the set up and running of a wide variety of statistical computing programs, including SAS, SPSS, Minitab, R, and S-Plus.

Probability

Mathematical Statistics

This program focuses on theoretical validation of methodologies derived from analysis of high and ultrahigh dimensional data, flexible semiparametric models, bootstrap, penalized function estimation, default and hierarchical Bayesian methods, and extreme value theory and spatial statistics. There are also teams working on fiducial theory and forest density estimation.

Healthcare Delivery

Healthcare delivery science examines how healthcare treatment can be delivered to the patients. Examples include efficient patient scheduling, reducing preventable hospital readmission, and improved physician-patient communication.
