Exam Expectations

Purdue Testing Services enforces Purdue University's standards of academic integrity as well as all test sponsor regulations to ensure the validity of all tests and the safety of our clients.

Identification is Required

Please have your ID(s) ready when you arrive. Please review the rules regarding identification for your particular exam. You may be required to present multiple forms of ID or a specific type of ID. If you do not have valid and acceptable identification, you will not be admitted for your exam.

No Outerwear

Outerwear is not allowed in the testing room and must be stored in a locker prior to admission. Outerwear includes coats, jackets, vests, and scarves.

No Hats or Other Head Coverings

Hats and head coverings may not be worn in the testing room. Religious headwear is acceptable but may be subject to inspection.

No Electronic Devices

All cell phones, laptops, tablets, music players, headphones, recording devices, electronic storage devices, translators, watches, fitness trackers and other electronic devices are prohibited.

Some Calculators Are Permitted

Calculators are allowed for some exams but are subject to approval. Please review the rules and restrictions for your particular exam.

No Study Materials

It is your responsibility to prepare for your exam in advance. Studying is not allowed within the testing space.

No Reference Materials or Papers of Any Kind

Textbooks, notes, pamphlets and other reference materials are not allowed. If necessary, scratch paper or note-taking materials will be provided.

No Writing Utensils

When necessary, writing utensils will be provided by PTS unless otherwise specified by the test vendor.

No Food, Drinks, Gum or Tobacco Products

Food, drinks, gum, candy and other items are prohibited in the testing space. Exams that include breaks allow limited access to these items.

Jewelry

Jewelry wider than 1/4 inch must be removed for Pearson VUE testing. Religious jewelry is not considered religious apparel and is subject to the same rules as other jewelry.

Storing Personal Items

For all tests administered by PTS, you will be required to empty your pockets and store all personal items — including cell phones, watches, jewelry, wallets and keys — in the provided lockers. You will be allowed to take the locker key with you into the testing space, and your items will be secure. However, if you do not feel comfortable storing certain items in a locker, do not bring them with you. PTS staff are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items.

Allowable Items

Some test vendors may allow certain "comfort aid" items. Please review the rules and restrictions for your particular exam. Allowable items are subject to inspection by PTS staff.

FE/FS clients: Please note that the NCEES allowance of a "light sweater or jacket" does not preclude the PTS rule prohibiting outerwear items with hoods or pockets.

Other Notes

PTS does our best to keep the testing space at a comfortable temperature, but comfort levels vary. If you are worried that it may be too cold, you can wear a long-sleeved shirt or dress in layers. Again, outerwear is not allowed. If you are unable to store your outerwear in a locker, you will not be admitted.

Exams are administered in a confined space. Please be considerate of others and refrain from using excessive cologne, perfume or other products with artificial fragrance, as this may cause irritation for other clients or trigger allergic reactions.

Please contact our team prior to your exam if you have any questions.

Academic Honesty

We ask that you refrain from putting yourself in jeopardy of violating the Purdue Honor Pledge when testing with us.
