Purdue University and Purdue Global Dental Insurance
Dental Provider: Delta Dental
Plan Details
Dental plans are administered on a calendar year and elections made during the annual open enrollment period will be in effect from January through December, unless you have a qualifying change in family status or loss of eligibility. Premiums are taken from your pay before taxes are calculated.
Any deductible or benefit limits associated with your plan are tracked on a January-December basis. All benefits paid by the dental plan contribute toward the plan’s annual maximum benefit.
How to Enroll
You may view and enroll in dental benefits during annual open enrollment and as a newly eligible employee. Go to the OneCampus Portal, choose Benefitfocus and sign on using your BoilerKey. (For information on BoilerKey, visit www.purdue.edu/boilerkey.)
Dental Insurance Options 2023
Benefits-eligible employees will have four options to choose from in Benefitfocus regarding dental coverage.
- Delta Dental Preventive Only – Covers preventive services only. This will require an election in Benefitfocus separate from your medical plan election. Services provided by out-of-network dentists are covered at a reduced level and may be subject to balance billing.
- Delta Dental Option 1 – This plan provides the broadest coverage for basic and major services, including orthodontic services for those up to age 19. While you will receive the greatest benefit for diagnostic, preventive and restorative work if the Delta Dental PPO network is used, you may choose to use dentists in the expanded Delta Dental Premier network at reduced discounts. Services provided by out-of-network dentists are covered at a reduced level and may be subject to balance billing.
- Delta Dental Option 2 (Standard) –This plan provides fundamental coverage on basic and major services. While you will receive the greatest benefit for diagnostic, preventive and restorative work if the Delta Dental PPO network is used, you may choose to use dentists in the expanded Delta Dental Premier network at reduced discounts. Not many services provided by out-of-network dentists are covered on this plan. Those that are have coverage at a reduced level and may be subject to balance billing.
- Opt out – You may choose to have no dental coverage, including the preventive only option, by completely waiving all dental coverage.

*Delta Dental has two networks: Delta Dental PPO and Delta Dental Premier. The Delta Dental PPO Network has the steepest discounts, meaning the employee would pay less at a participating dentist in this network than at a dentist in the Delta Dental Premier Network; however the Delta Dental Premier Network is broader, meaning more dentists participate in it. Both are considered “in-network” whereas a dentist not contracted within either of these networks would be considered “out-of-network” or “non-participating”.
Dental ID Cards
Delta Dental issues two ID cards per employee (regardless of how many dependents are enrolled). Each card will be in the employee’s name. Employees may call Delta Dental to order additional cards, may print them through the Member Portal, or may access them via the Mobile App.
