The One Hour with HR series is a monthly program on relevant human resources topics, focusing on building stronger connections between members of our community. Our goal is to provide new opportunities each year for both employees and supervisors to engage, learn and grow. New sessions are added based on recommendations from previous attendees. 

These virtual sessions are part of our shared journey to create an environment where every team member can thrive. Purdue values lifelong learning, and we invite you to use these courses as an opportunity to deepen your knowledge.

January: Creating Your Data Story - How to Gather and Interpret Data to Drive Outcomes

Turn key performance indicators, benchmarks and trends into clear stories that inform decisions. Attendees will learn simple visualization techniques, practice framing insights to persuade decision makers and talk about the ongoing process of leveraging data over time to drive change.


February: Your Path to Wellness

“Your Path to Wellness” will introduce updates to Purdue’s wellness program, including its new name and the reason behind the change. Participants will learn about wellness incentive opportunities that support their overall health and well-being, including the new learning module. The session also will highlight key features of the wellness program and explain how Purdue’s comprehensive benefits align with the program’s five pillars – behavioral health, financial wellness, physical health, social wellness and work-life integration.

March: Navigating Career Paths at Purdue: From Role to Growth

This session will demystify Purdue's job structure, while providing practical steps to explore career mobility. Attendees will learn how to use tools like Talent Profiles, Pathmaker and development plans to grow with the university, with real examples of staff who've progressed through internal opportunities.

April: AI at Work: Making Everyday Tasks Smarter

This session explores practical ways to use AI tools like Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, and others to work more efficiently, spark ideas, and improve communication. Participants will see real Purdue-based examples of how AI supports scheduling, report writing, meeting summaries, and research preparation. 

May: Conversations that Empower: Building a Coaching Mindset in Higher Education

Discover how a coaching-centered approach can transform day-to-day interactions across campus. Learn how to use coaching skills to strengthen communication, collaboration and growth across campus. This practical sessions introduces key International Coaching Federation-aligned principles and simple coaching techniques to support staff development, career growth and improved performance.

June: Moving Forward

This session is a condensed version of Moving Forward in Four, a series hosted by Talent Acquisition that's designed to strengthen your changes for internal opportunities at Purdue. During this one hour, we will spend the majority of our time introducing resume tips, including composing a strong resume and preparing for job interviews.
