iLab Training for Principal Investigators

The Principal Investigator (PI) role in iLab is one of the principal building blocks of iLab organization.  The PI and their lab members can join departments and centers, be assigned account strings, and request access to equipment and services.

The PI (or a delegated representative) can approve membership requests to their lab, add or remove lab members, assign funds/accounts, and has multiple options in controlling or approving research spending by those members.

While PIs have visibility to charges from their lab, and are asked to review for accuracy, a fiscal approver (in most cases the PI’s business office delegates) should be the one to approve invoices. If the invoice has any discrepancies in account assignment or percentage allocations, these should be communicated to the PI’s account manager in the departmental business office.

The iLab For Principal Investigators QRC is a good starting point for basic iLab operations and provides a concise overview of what iLab is.
