Empowered Choices Course - Alcohol awareness training for incoming and transfer students
Students are back on campus, and the positive energy and excitement levels are high. As students learn about campus resources, where to find their classes, and which dining hall is their favorite, we encourage them to be a Boilermaker who cares for their community. Part of this involves knowing how to make responsible decisions concerning alcohol and other drugs. First-year and transfer students are expected to complete a 60-minute, online alcohol education program called Empowered Choices. This educational program gives a brief overview of drinking alcohol on college campuses, addresses risks related to drinking, provides tips on getting help, and includes Purdue-relevant resources students can access. The Empowered Choices course is in your student’s Brightspace course listing. This course should be completed before October 1. After completing the course, students will gain awareness about the resources and services they need to be a supportive Boilermaker and how to make good choices. We ask that you have alcohol conversations with your student(s) and continue these conversations to help reduce alcohol abuse throughout their academic career. We want to partner with you to support your Boilermaker and the community.
