General Information and Account Set Up

PersonalShip is a service provided by eShipGlobal that grants faculty and staff access to the university’s discounted pricing on personal shipments. Users have the ability to ship, track and manage shipments online, while comparing rates and services between multiple carriers at one time.

The online system offers many benefits including allowing users to:

  • Choose from FedEx, UPS, USPS and DHL to determine which carrier best meets their specific needs
  • Leverage the university's negotiated pricing
  • Review and compare shipping rates and estimated delivery times for FedEx, UPS, and DHL, based on entered package dimensions and weight
  • Track shipments from an integrated at-a-glance dashboard, regardless of the carrier used to ship the package
  • Pay using a personal credit card
  • Print shipping labels
  • Review the selected carrier’s nearby storefront locations and exterior drop off sites
PersonalShip is easy to use and is designed to be intuitive. You must use your Purdue career account username and password to log into the system. Once you are in the system, you can also click on the red help links for additional assistance and explanation.
In order to get the discount, you must sign in to PersonalShip using your Purdue career account username and password.

Preparing and Mailing Your Shipment

Yes, the program is limited to shipping within the continental United States and Hawaii. UPS also ships to Puerto Rico as part of this program. Eligibility is also limited to small parcels that are defined as under 150 pounds.

PersonalShip cannot be used for international shipping, including shipping to Canada or Mexico. PersonalShip cannot be used to ship hazardous materials/dangerous goods or for illegal goods and activities. Freight, pallets and packages that weigh more than 150 pounds are not eligible.

Business needs are also handled through eShipGlobal, though they are not eligible as part of the PersonalShip platform. Information about discounted business shipping is available on the Materials Management and Distribution website.

If you make a mistake or need to update a label, you must cancel the shipment and create a new label. Please note that you cannot edit or reuse a label. By design, every package must have a unique shipping label because each bar code is a point of control for the carrier.

The good news is that PersonalShip through eShipGlobal gives you the ability to cancel a shipment on your own and create a new label rather than calling the carrier to cancel the shipment on your behalf.

It is too late to cancel a shipment once it has been placed in a drop box or picked up by the carrier.

Off Campus:

  • Schedule a one-time pickup by the selected carrier directly within the PersonalShip website when creating a shipping label.
  • Regularly scheduled pickups can be arranged with each carrier at no additional cost, depending on shipping volume and frequency.

On Campus:

  • Shipments must be dropped off at the selected carrier’s storefront location or their exterior drop off boxes.
  • Do not schedule pickups with the carrier directly at a campus location. Campus delivery/pickup traffic is limited for the safety of our students, faculty and staff.
  • West Lafayette campus facilities or residence hall mail rooms may provide carrier pick up sites.

Cost and Insurance

 Discover, Visa and MasterCard are the only cards accepted.

PersonalShip allows you to include insurance on all packages with the limits stated below. To add insurance to your package, you can enter the desired insurance amount as the Declared Value in the Special Instructions section.

When declaring shipment values, keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • Letters (envelopes weighing ~8 ounces) can have a declared value of up to $500.
  • Other types of packages can have a declared value of up to $50,000.
  • UPS charges $0.65 per $100 of declared value to insure a package.
  • Other carriers’ rates are similar.

PersonalShip cannot process packages with a declared value greater than $50,000; for these shipments, contact support@eshipglobal.com.

The cost of shipping a package depends on a variety of factors including:

  • Your choice of carrier
  • The size and weight of your package
  • The ship-to location
  • The type of shipment

Generally, yes. However, there are a few scenarios that do not require package dimensions to be entered such as mailing a letter. As you enter information about your package into PersonalShip, dimension fields will be visible if they are needed to generate estimated costs.

Please note: Approximate weights are perfectly fine, even when using the Ship function to actually send a parcel. All parcels are re-weighed upon pickup, and your price will be adjusted accordingly by the carrier. If you provide an approximation of the package’s weight, you will get a near price estimate. Additional information is available by clicking on the Help button at the bottom of the Package Info section. For specific questions regarding dimensional weight or size of your package, please contact the carrier.

Shipping Assistance

From the shipment tracking page, click on the printer icon to print a receipt. The charges you see on the billing page/receipt are only estimates. They do not include such items as duties, taxes, surcharges, etc. The actual shipping cost will appear on your credit card statement.
