Academic Separation Status
I've been Academically Separated from the University. Why?
Under University regulations, a student on Academic Notice will move to Academic Separation status if their semester and cumulative GPA are below the 2.0 requirement. Students in Academic Separation status cannot return to the University unless they complete the readmission process. Readmission to the College of Science is not guaranteed. A review of a student's Purdue academic record and coursework during the separation period will be evaluated in determining a decision to readmit the student.
Can I appeal my Academic Separation status?
Academic Separation status may not be appealed under university policy.
What will I need to do to apply for readmission?
A student must complete the readmission process. Therefore, it is essential that a student thoroughly read the readmission website so they correctly complete the process. In addition, students must meet the application deadline for the semester or term they would like to return to Purdue.
Students should contact the Director of Undergraduate Education and Academic Advising at horngren@purdue.edu to determine if they are eligible to readmit to the College of Science directly. Readmission is not guaranteed.
What will be expected of me?
First Academic Separation Status: a minimum one-semester lay-out period is required. Students requesting readmission to the College of Science must complete 12 credit hours (minimum of six credits of math and/or science coursework) in one semester at another institution and earn a B grade or better in each course.
Second Academic Separation Status: a minimum 2-semester lay-out period is required. Students requesting readmission to the College of Science must complete 12 credit hours (minimum of six credits of math and/or science coursework) in one semester at another institution and earn a B grade or better in each course.
Important Note: Students are limited to two readmission approvals. There is no appeal process for this policy. Exception: a student within 15 credits of completing their degree requirements may seek approval an additional readmission.
Can my advisor help me in deciding where to go and what classes to take while I'm in Academic Separation status?
No. Students must complete the readmission process through their own efforts. Many students attend Ivy Tech and, where possible, complete courses which are Purdue course equivalencies. Special Note: classes are required during Academic Separation status to establish a student's renewed ability to complete Purdue coursework.
I think one of my grades is incorrect and that I should not be in Academic Separation status. What can I do to get my grade changed?
Students who believe they have received an incorrect grade may dispute their status within 30 days of the start of the subsequent semester (excludes summer session).
