What you’ll do in SCI - 30100 - STEM Teaching Exploration, 1 credit:
- Practice effective teaching using proven, research‑based models.
- Elicit students’ ideas in STEM through purposeful questioning, writing, and discussion.
- Design and deliver micro‑lessons that use active learning.
- Evaluate teaching methodologies and when they work best.
- Integrate technology to support inquiry‑based, student‑centered learning.
- Explore STEM education careers across industry training, formal classrooms, and informal learning settings.
This course is the beginning of a 9 credit sequence that satisfies the coursework for the certificate. The certificate also requires teaching experiences that can be achieved in a variety of different ways. Students will be eligible to take a licensure exam with a Science Major and be ready to teach STEM secondary education (grades 5-12) in Indiana.
