Technical Writer

Technical Writers are master communicators in multimodal formats who convey complex information in a variety of disciplines.

Summary

Consider the brand new computer or smartphone you just bought: You unbox the device, and out comes the paper booklet full of instructions. The booklet you hold in your hands is the work of a Tehcnical Writer! These individuals work to convey the most complex information in their field of specialty to users at all levels. Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, and more all have a dire need for technical communication in their fields. 

 

Educational Requirements

Technical Writers benefit from the variety of needs in their field. A degree in English or Communications is one approach, but Technical Writers may take another route and pursue a STEM field supplemented by Communications coursework.

 

Salary Information 2022

According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary of a Technical Writer in 2022 was $79,960.
