Jo Cardarelli, a passionate advocate for student success, is poised to lead academic support initiatives at Purdue University in Indianapolis as the new assistant director of Academic Success. With a master's degree in higher education from Kent State University and over three years of experience spearheading a variety of programs in West Lafayette, Cardarelli brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role.
Since joining the Helen Bass Williams Academic Success Center (ASC) in June 2021, Cardarelli has been instrumental in transforming student support services and enhancing the overall academic experience for undergraduate students. Through her innovative approach to workshop curriculum development and strategic marketing efforts, she has significantly increased the visibility and impact of the ASC on campus.
"I’m excited to channel my dedication to student success into creating a welcoming and empowering academic environment in Indianapolis,” Cardarelli shares. “My experience in West Lafayette has taught me the importance of being creative and building community. I look forward to bringing these principles to my new role.”
Cardarelli's dedication to empowering students extends beyond her professional responsibilities. She actively engages with campus partners, organizes outreach initiatives, and fosters a culture of inclusivity and support within the ASC. Her commitment to student success is exemplified by her efforts to recruit and retain student office ambassadors, who play a crucial role in delivering essential support services to their peers.
Thanks to many of Cardarelli’s contributions, the ASC has experienced unprecedented growth and recognition. Her strategic initiatives have enhanced student engagement while garnering accolades and awards, including a Bravo Award and a special employee recognition award.
“Jo has been such an asset to our center,” says Katie Dufault, director of the Helen Bass Williams Academic Success Center. “She is the type of leader who sees potential and cultivates it — exactly the type of leader we want to carry on the ASC’s work in Indianapolis.”
As Cardarelli embarks on her new role, she is eager to leverage her expertise and passion for student success to make a meaningful impact on the Purdue community. Her goals for the Indianapolis campus reflect her commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive academic environment where all students can thrive.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Cardarelli remains actively involved in the community, serving as a board member for a non-profit organization and participating in extracurricular activities such as the Faculty and Staff Bowling League. Her dedication to serving others and making a positive impact is a testament to her unwavering commitment to student success and higher education.
