Purdue will celebrate Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 10, with a ceremony and salute in the Great Hall of Purdue Memorial Union.
The ceremony will include the "Presentation of the Colors" by Purdue University Tri-service Color Guard, the Pledge of Allegiance, the national anthem, and patriotic songs by the Purduettes. A table of remembrance and moment of silence, and three memorial volleys will take place at the tribute, which is free and open to the public.
The salute will begin at 2 p.m.
A renaming and space dedication ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, following the Veterans Day Ceremony. The renaming also will take place in Room 118 of the Purdue Memorial Union.
Scheduled speakers are:
- Zane Reif, Director of the Purdue Memorial Union
- Morgan Gamble, Director of the Veterans Success Center
Following the tribute, refreshments will be available in Purdue Memorial Union, Room 118.
The event is co-sponsored by Purdue Student Union Board, Purdue Student Veteran Organization and the Dorothy Stratton Veteran and Military Success Center, which was renamed this year to honor Stratton, Purdue’s first dean of women and originator of the SPARs program. Approved by Purdue’s Board of Trustees in October, the new name pays homage to Stratton’s legacy and leadership to Purdue and the nation.
Several other events will take place the week leading up to Veterans Day; for a full list of VetFest events, visit the VMSC website.
Disabled attendees should contact Bryan Arbic at barbic@purdue.edu regarding any specific accommodation needs. The VMSC will make every effort to provide reasonable accommodations in an effective and timely manner.
