Undergraduate Concentration Proposals
This guidance describes the steps required to launch an Undergraduate Concentration proposal originating from Purdue West Lafayette for University approvals. Please see Purdue Fort Wayne or Purdue Northwest guidance for proposals originating from these campuses, or reach out to campus contacts.
An Undergraduate Concentration proposal is a specialization tied to a specific major of at least 9 hours. Concentrations are meant to provide students specialized coursework within their degree, unlike a minor, which is meant for exposure to knowledge outside of the student’s primary program. If the program is open to students across majors, please see Undergraduate Minor proposal.
A concentration is an internal proposal. Concentrations do not use a Classification of Instructional Program (CIP) code. Earned concentrations are noted on student transcripts. Lists of existing concentrations can be found on the Office of the Registrar Active Curriculum Reports website.
Proposals are reviewed on a rolling basis once they enter the workflow. Time to complete indicates the typical completion timeframe from proposal launch to completion in workflow. Some proposals may complete faster, while others may need more time based on when they are launched. Please see Key Planning Considerations below.
