Professional Staff Development

The division of Student Life employs 900+ full-time staff with a diverse range of talents. Staff members from various professional fields and backgrounds work together to promote and implement the division’s principles of student learning, leadership development, inclusion, stewardship and unity on campus.

Acquiring and developing high-caliber employees committed to the vision of the organization requires a continuous cycle of professional development offerings, which provide staff opportunities to grow within their current roles as well as toward future endeavors.

Various professional development opportunities are provided to staff through the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Life. Some are listed below and some you will hear about through the year via email.

Fraternity, Sorority and Cooperative Life

Are you interested in expanding on your professional experience? Do you enjoy working with student leaders through intentional mentorship? If so, consider advising a cooperative, a fraternity or a sorority. Purdue has one of the largest Greek communities in the country and is home to 12 cooperative houses. These organizations focus on scholastic achievement, leadership development, philanthropy, service and brother/sisterhood.

If you are interested in more information about becoming an advisor, please contact Fraternity, Sorority and Cooperative Life (FSCL) via email or check out the FSCL website.

Student Activities and Organizations

We are inviting you to get involved with Purdue' s student organizations, which are designed to enhance the out-of-classroom experiences for students. We currently have over 900 organizations in which students and members of the University community enjoy infinite opportunities. For faculty and staff interested in getting involved in an advisory capacity, please contact the Student Activities and Organizations office at 765-494-1231.

Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities

The Community Standards Board (CSB) has outlined a process in the University Regulations to resolve student disciplinary matters not related to Title IX that could result in expulsion or suspension from the university. Typical issues presented to the board involve academic integrity-related matters and those involving alcohol and other drugs.

As a CSB member, you would serve as one of five panel members who would review information presented by the Office of the Dean of Students and information presented by the responding student, make a determination on whether a University regulation was violated and, if so, make a recommendation on an appropriate sanction or appropriate sanctions.

In this role, you will have an opportunity to work with Purdue students who are at a critical crisis point in their tenure at the institution. You will have an opportunity to utilize critical-thinking skills, questioning techniques and conflict-resolution strategies to make decisions that impact a student and their status at Purdue.

If you are interested in learning more about the CSB, or would like to consider participating in a training session to serve in this role, please contact Jeff Stafancic, associate dean of students, via email.
