Heejeon Joy Bras is a continuing lecturer in Purdue Language and Cultural Exchange (PLaCE). Prior to joining PLaCE in January 2018, she taught on a full-time basis at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) and as a graduate assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and worked as an ENL teacher at Harrison High School for the Tippecanoe School Corporation. In all of these institutions she has worked with a broad range of colleagues and students. She earned a degree in English from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and a master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Reading Education from the University of Northern Iowa. She has also completed the course work for a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction (specializing in Second Language Acquisition and bilingual education) at UIUC. Her research interests are bilingual education, second language acquisition, and culturally responsive teaching.
Harris Bras is the Director of Second Language Writing at Purdue University and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of English. His PhD is from Purdue in Second Language Studies. In previous years he also worked with the Afghan Junior Faculty Development Program at Purdue through International Programs in Agriculture. Prior to Purdue, Dr. Bras taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels at Jeju National University in South Korea for three years and taught EFL for four years in Yokohama, Japan. His interests include Second Language Writing Programs, English as a Foreign Language in Northeast Asia, and East Asian history and culture.
