Resources, Timelines, Forms and Related Information

Staff
  • Quick Summary
  • Required Forms
    • Note: The unit does not need to figure out which process and forms are required - contact PISA and we can advise you.
    • Work Visa (to work “now”)
      • To request J-1 visa status, use the "All J / VS Intake Form"
        • J-1 sponsorship is available only if the employment is for a specific duration (the offer letter has an end date)
        • J-1 sponsorship and permanent residence sponsorship cannot be requested at the same time; these are incompatible, by law
      • To request H-1B, E-3, TN or O-1 visa status, use the "HEOTN & New Faculty" Intake Form
        • H-1B (and E-3) regulations may impose additional wage considerations on the hire; if a hiring manager knows prior to offer that the chosen candidate prefers H-1B (or E-3) status, it is strongly recommended that a pre-offer immigration wage analysis is obtained at that time to confirm what the required wage threshold for the H-1B (or E-3) status will be. Talent Acquisition will request this analysis, through the Compensation department, if the hiring manager indicates that immigration sponsorship is available.
    • Permanent Residence (to work indefinitely, this must be requested in addition to a work visa)
      • For Permanent Residence, use the "HEOTN & New Faculty" Intake Form
      • Whether to offer US permanent residence to a staff member is subject to the supervisor’s discretion
      • The norms for staff permanent residence is
        • EB-2 PERM for staff who neither teach nor research
        • EB-2 “Re-Selection” for staff who teach
        • EB-1B Outstanding Processor/Research or EB-2 National Interest Waiver for staff who research
        • Purdue policy requires completion of one year of employment prior to filing a request for permanent residence. This means AY hires must complete an AY year; FY hires must complete an FY year. It is the supervisor's discretion as to whether the year must be in the qualifying position or not; supervisors may consider employment in any other position within the unit to satisfy this requirement, if they choose.
  • When to Contact PISA
    • Talent Acquisition is responsible for contacting PISA about new international staff hires. Under normal circumstances, this is done once the offer is accepted by the staff person. However, if there are concerns about any aspect of the hire or immigration process, OR the timeline is especially tight, the hiring manager or the Talent Acquisition Specialist may contact PISA earlier so that we can provide more expedient support
