September 2016 Newsletter
Greetings Boilermaker Parents & Families!
As the first weeks of classes have been completed, the excitement of a new academic year is in full swing. Students are getting settled in their class schedule and looking into involvement opportunities on campus through campus employment, Greek Life and/or BoilerLink. While the energy is high, it’s also important to recognize there will be struggles.
Generally, these struggles are a necessary part of growth and development. However, if you believe your student is experiencing homesickness or transition challenges beyond their ability to cope or manage, we in the Office of the Dean of Students are here to help!
We encourage you to go to our website and utilizing the link “Report a Student of Concern”, share the issue with us. We will then follow up with your student either via e-mail, phone call or perhaps asking a student leader such as an RA to connect with them. We will offer suggestions, resources or ideas on how to manage obstacles. Be aware though, we will not “fix” it for them, but rather help them form a plan to address concerns and ultimately support their growth and development.
Thank you for sharing your student with us. We are proud to have them in our Boilermaker family and look forward to watching them grow and succeed.
Boiler Up!

CARE recognizes that each person’s experience is unique, and staff are available to help each survivor assess their reporting options and access resources that meet personal needs. CARE staff can also provide information and other support services to friends and family of survivors. In addition to direct survivor services, CARE offers campus-wide programming on sexual violence, consent, and bystander intervention, among other topics.
