2024 Boilermaker Year in Review

Purdue University broke new records in almost all dimensions of student admissions and success, research and innovation, finance and philanthropy, infrastructure and partnerships, rankings and visibility in fiscal year 2024 that concluded in June. Then the second half of 2024 saw the opening of the first urban expansion of Purdue’s main campus, growth of the Daniels School of Business, major wins in Purdue Computes research and industry partnership, and the launch of the One Health initiative. Here are a couple of memorable Boilermaker moments from each month of 2024. Happy New Year, and Boiler Up!

1098-T and Education Tax Credits

As part of the Office of the Bursar's commitment to keeping you informed, we want to provide some important details regarding Form 1098-T. This form plays a key role in helping you claim certain federal education tax credits, which may reduce your tax liability.

Form 1098-T Overview: Box 1 of the Form 1098-T represents the amount of Qualified Tuition & Related Expenses (QTRE) paid during the year at Purdue University.
Education Tax Credits: Depending on your student's income, enrollment status, and qualified educational expenses, they may be eligible for federal education tax credits. Detailed information about claiming these credits is available on the IRS website, publication 970
Completing IRS Form 8863: The dollar amounts reported on the Form 1098-T may be essential for completing IRS Form 8863, used to calculate education tax credits for your tax return.
Important Deadlines: Please be aware that due to the Winter Recess, any mailed payments, including 529s, must be received in our office no later than December 19^th to be processed and included on the 2024 Form 1098-T. Payments made online electronically and posted by December 31, 2024, will be included.

2025-2026 FAFSA is OPEN!

Current students interested in receiving financial aid (including federal educational loans) at Purdue University for the 2025-2026 academic year must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The 2025-26 FAFSA will look two years back at 2023 tax data. This will allow most students and their family contributors to have their income information downloaded directly into the FAFSA from their already completed 2023 IRS tax records. For maximum aid consideration, students/family contributors should complete a FAFSA by Purdue’s April 15, 2025 priority filing date, using School Code 001825. Students/contributors submit the FAFSA at studentaid.gov/. Dependent students and at least one parent must each have a Federal Student Aid Account (FSA ID) to complete the FAFSA process. Note: Indiana residents can get FREE help submitting the 2025-26 FAFSA during College Goal Sunday, February 23, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. (local time) at multiple locations around the state.

Purdue, city of West Lafayette snow routes and process announced

The Purdue community should be aware of established snow routes on and adjacent to the West Lafayette campus ahead of potential adverse winter weather. In the event that two or more inches of snow is forecast, motorists could be required to move their on-street vehicles from the Purdue snow routes.

Fast Company names Purdue University a ‘Brand That Matters’ for fourth straight year

For the fourth year in a row, Purdue is the only higher education institution to be named to Fast Company magazine’s prestigious “Brands That Matter,” an annual list recognizing and honoring organizations for their ability to convey their brand, perform their mission, and advance their ideals with intention and authenticity.

Purdue introduces new head football coach Barry Odom with welcome event, press conference

A new chapter for Purdue football has begun with the introduction of new head coach Barry Odom during a welcome event and press conference Tuesday (Dec. 10) at Mackey Arena. The event included remarks by Odom, President Mung Chiang; Michael Berghoff, chair of the Purdue Board of Trustees; and Mike Bobinski, executive vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics.

Homecoming scheduled for Oct. 25

Mark your calendar for Purdue’s homecoming on Oct. 25. Among the day’s activities, the football team will face Rutgers University in gridiron action at Ross-Ade Stadium. For event updates as they become available, visit https://www.purdueforlife.org/homecoming/.

Indiana Commission for Higher Education tours Birck Nanotechnology Center, connects with semiconductor undergrads

Purdue recently welcomed members and staff from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education for a visit to campus, highlighting the university’s commitment to advancing education, innovation and student success. The visit featured a tour of the Birck Nanotechnology Center, a hub for cutting-edge research and technological advancement, where visitors learned about Purdue’s leadership in nanotechnology and quantum research and its transformative impact on science and industry.

As Boilermakers return for the Spring semester, Dr. Jerome Adams, Former United States Surgeon General and Executive Director of the Center for Community Health Enhancement and Learning at Purdue, shares tips on keeping safe from norovirus.
