William Landwer

BA’ 74, Geology-Mathematics, Western Michigan University
MS ’77, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, Purdue University
MBA ’83, Marketing-Economics, Oklahoma City University

"A natural interest in earth materials and curiosity about its order by mathematical descriptions brought me to the study combining these subjects. As a result of my broad-based and gracious academic experience at Purdue, I came to recognize that the energy industry might further provide ample opportunities in a rewarding environment."

With more than 35 years in the petroleum industry, William R. Landwer is currently chief geophysicist for Kerns Petroleum Inc., focused on the exploration of major hydrocarbon producing basins.

His designs and inventions have resulted in various field discoveries, including one in 1983 when he led a discovery team to a multiple-billion barrel find in Canada’s Arctic Islands Area by using potential fields and seismic archive data.

Most recently, Landwer invented the subsea Shear-Component Underwater Impeller Diverter, a generating mechanism for subsea hydrocarbon reservoir monitor, gas hydrates farming, and strength-ofmaterials testing.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 2009 - Invented subsea Shear-Component Underwater Impeller Diverter
  • 2000 - Developed Seismic Interpretation Technology Exchange international industry school for subsurface exploration by foreign government oil companies
  • 1995 - Formed Interpretive Processing Corporation (IPC – Consulting)
  • 1983 - Led team to multiple-billion barrel new field discovery in Arctic Islands area of Canada
