Right before Spring Break, Orientation Programs attended the Association for Orientation, Transition, Retention in Higher Education (NODA) Region V & VII Conference at the University of Iowa. The combined regions V and VII represent institutions across much of the midwest.
This conference creates a valuable space for student leaders to connect and learn about other institutions' orientation programs. This year, the Purdue Student Orientation Committee (SOC) made meaningful relationships and shared about the All Aboard Purdue experience.
Ty Roman and John Stutzman presented on how servant leadership is introduced to student staff and the value it brings to our programs.
Bia Cren Colalillo and John Riley presented on reducing bias in the selection process and student training.
April Lanka and Kelsey Black presented on the connection between orientation checkpoints and how an orientation leader can cultivate meaningful and supportive relationships.
Varun Kamble and Lyla Stubbe presented on how to promote an inclusive and authentic environment amongst student staff and new students through FreeZone.
Professional staff members Abby Molzer and Adina Loomis hosted a roundtable presentation on accessibility in orientation programming.
In addition to presentations, all student leaders participated in a case study competition on teams made up of students from different institutions. John Riley's team won Case Study #1 and Varun Kamble's team won Case Study #2.
