Purdue’s Dorothy Stratton Veteran and Military Success Center (VMSC) has experienced a transformative year. During the 2023-2024 academic year, the VMSC’s staff provided crucial support to 2,089 military-connected students through strategic initiatives, community-building events, and a mission to honor the service and legacy of our nation’s heroes.
STUDENT-FOCUSED INITIATIVES
One initiative spearheaded by the Dorothy Stratton Veteran and Military Success Center to holistically support students is their Child of a Disabled Veteran Emergency Fund. This year, seven students who were facing unexpected crises received immediate financial assistance so they didn’t have to choose between education and well-being.
Additionally, the VMSC’s GI Bill Entitlement Scholarship supported five students who had exhausted governmental education benefits, allowing them to continue their education during the spring semester without financial strain.

COMMUNITY-BUILDING EVENTS
Throughout the year, the VMSC hosted a series of workshops, social events and networking opportunities that were instrumental in helping students navigate campus and make the most of their Purdue experience. Some of the most-loved events included:
- Military Appreciation Football Game Tailgate
- Military-Connected Career Fair
- Women of the Military Coffee Hour
- Armed Forces Open Handball Tournament
HONORING A LEGACY
The VMSC also celebrated a renaming and dedication, becoming the Dorothy Stratton Veteran and Military Success Center. This new name honors the legacy of Captain Dorothy Stratton, a pioneering leader who championed women’s military service and education. This not only reflects the center's mission but also inspires staff to pursue excellence in every initiative, event and student interaction.

Looking forward, the VMSC is working to expand its GI Bill program to Indianapolis, ensuring that military-connected students across both campuses have access to the same level of support and resources. This expansion, along with other service-connected education benefit programs, underscores the VMSC’s commitment to serving those who serve.
