International Travel Grants
Global Partnerships and Programs is pleased to announce the International Travel Grants. These grants are designed to invest in global engagement that supports a faculty member’s international research, teaching, or engagement work. GPP will provide up to $2,000 for activities, which may include participation in major disciplinary or interdisciplinary conferences in international venues, or participation in smaller workshops or working sessions.
Grant Details
- Grant Amount: Up to $2,000.
- Purpose: To invest in global engagement that supports a faculty member’s international research, teaching, or engagement work. This may include participation in major disciplinary or interdisciplinary conferences in international venues, or participation in smaller workshops or working sessions. The grant may also support short-term travel to conduct archive or field research, install an exhibit, participate in a contest or competition, or perform in a creative production. Preference will be given to those who do not have other funding, and those with accepted papers, posters, or seminars.
- Application Deadline: Rolling submissions until grant funds have been expended for the year.
Eligibility
- Applicants: All full-time research, teaching, and tenure-track faculty from Purdue University West Lafayette and Indianapolis. Note: Faculty does not include graduate assistants for this purpose. An applicant may only receive funding for a maximum of one travel grant per academic year and cannot be combined with another Giant Leaps grant.
- Location: Grant applications to locations designated as level 3 or 4 according to the U.S. Department of State’s Travel Advisory System will not be considered (except for Colombia, due to Purdue's strategic partnership).
Proposal Submission:
- Submit Application: Complete the International Travel Grant Application Form.
- Required Documents: Include the following with your application:
- Proposal Narrative: Details regarding the need for, objectives of, and expected outcomes of the visit.
- Budget: Present an overview of expected expenses (travel, accommodation, meals, registration, etc.) and how any costs outside the grant amount will be covered. Note that, in most cases, funds will be transferred to the applicant's account upon confirmation of the activity's commencement and must be administered by the applicant/his or her business office.
Submission Deadline:
- At least two months prior to intended travel.
- Applicants may submit their applications even if their paper or presentation has not yet been accepted for a conference at the time of application. However, they must provide proof of acceptance—such as an acceptance letter or confirmation email—before traveling in order to receive any funding support.
Review Process:
- Evaluation Criteria: Applications will be evaluated based on available funding, and the clarity of the proposal narrative.
- Decision Notification: Applicants will typically be notified of award decisions within two weeks of application submission.
Award Expectations:
- Visit: Conduct travel within six months from the date of application.
- Concur Travel System: Ensure that all travel is in compliance with Purdue travel regulations, including requesting travel authorization in advance of travel through Purdue's Concur travel system.
- Funds Transfer: The travel grant will be transferred directly to the faculty member once travel arrangements have been confirmed.
