Specialty Summer Programs - Indianapolis
Early Start in Indianapolis includes a small number of targeted summer programs designed to support students’ academic readiness, momentum, and transition to college.
Rather than being tied to a single major, these experiences focus on building foundational skills, confidence, and connections that help students succeed in their first year at Purdue. Participation is determined through admissions or program-specific outreach, and students who are eligible will receive direct communication with next steps.
Math Momentum
Math Momentum is an invitation-based program designed to help you jump-start your Purdue experience on campus this summer. You complete math coursework that prepares you for success in your required Purdue math sequence. Through a five-week, on-campus experience, you enhance your math skills, build confidence and get a head start on college life.- MA 190: Foundations of College Math
This course helps you build momentum as you transition into college-level math at Purdue. Participating in Math Momentum gives you time to get familiar with how math courses work at Purdue and prepares you for the math courses required for your degree after the summer experience. - GS 120: Summer Seminar for Beginners I
This seminar helps students transition to college by building schedule management skills and learning how to make the most of free time between classes. Students set up and test the apps and tools they’ll use at Purdue, practice staying organized, and develop strategies to manage stress — all in a supportive environment that prepares them for success in the fall semester. - One 3-credit, five-week course during the summer.
This course may count toward University Core Curriculum or major-level requirements, depending on your selected course and academic program. Your academic advisor can help confirm how this course applies to your specific degree plan. Together, these courses are intended to support both preparation and academic progress as you begin your Purdue journey.
Indianapolis Academic and Leadership Institute
The Indianapolis Academic and Leadership Institute is a summer experience focused on interdisciplinary learning, academic preparation, and leadership development. Through structured programming and specialty coursework, students engage in experiences that emphasize problem-solving, collaboration, and leadership. This program is supported through partnerships across campus and is open to students from all academic majors.
- Orientation Weekend Kickoff
You’ll begin your journey with a dedicated Indianapolis Academic and Leadership Institute session during orientation weekend — a chance to connect, get inspired, and prepare for a strong start.
- Beyond the Classroom
In addition to coursework, students will participate in co-curricular programming designed to support leadership development, professional growth, and engagement beyond the classroom. Programming may include workshops, interactive sessions, and experiential learning opportunities that complement the academic experience.
- HONR 299: Transformative Leadership
This course explores leadership as a transformative practice grounded in self-reflection, shared vision, and collaboration. Students will develop a personal approach to leadership focused on collective growth, purpose, and positive change.
