The university will be open during the Winter Session 2024 on the following days with normal business operations:

  • Monday, Dec. 16 to Friday, Dec. 20
  • Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025 to Friday, Jan. 3, 2025

Many faculty and staff will be on Winter Recess from Monday, Dec. 23 through Wednesday, Jan. 1, and the University will be closed during this time. Please review the information below to learn what resources are available to faculty, staff, and students for questions related to Winter Session coursework during Winter Recess.

Mental Health & Wellness

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) 

CAPS provides confidential mental health support to Purdue students through a multidisciplinary team of professionals—all services are designed to meet the diverse needs of students. CAPS offers flexible, same-day, or next-day care with no predefined session limits, and most services are free.

During university closures from Monday, Dec. 23 to Wednesday, Jan. 1, 24/7 crisis services remain available by calling (765) 494-6995. CAPS operates on both the West Lafayette and Indianapolis campuses, offering onsite support when open.

Students, faculty, and staff have 24/7 access to Therapy Assistance Online (TAO), a web and app-based mental health resource provided by CAPS. TAO offers free, confidential, self-guided programs designed to help manage anxiety, depression, and other concerns. It features short videos, exercises, and self-reflection tools based on psychotherapy research. Users can create an account on the TAO Connect website or download the app via the App Store or Google Play.

If you find yourself struggling to find a healthy balance between academics, social life, stress, etc., sign up for free one-on-one virtual sessions with a Purdue Wellness Coach at RecWell . Student coaches can help you navigate through barriers and challenges toward your goals throughout the session. Sign up is free and can be done on BoilerConnect.   

RecWell Winter Hours
RecWell will operate on adjusted winter hours from Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, through Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025. Please note that RecWell will be closed from December 21 through January 1. Please visit the  RecWell website for the most up-to-date information on facility hours and programming during the winter holiday.

  • Student Support Services - We serve as a referral source for students regarding academic, personal, or financial concerns. We facilitate the University's excused class absence notifications, withdrawal processes, and grant emergency loans.

  • If an emergency occurs, participating students should contact their program leader. All other callers should contact the Purdue University Police Department (PUPD) at 765/494-8221. PUPD will connect emergency callers with staff from the Study Abroad Office.

  • Smalley Center and hall offices will be closed from Monday, Dec. 23, at 4 pm to Thursday, Jan. 2. Residents can return to halls at no charge beginning at 8:00 am on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
  • Meredith South, Hawkins, First Street, Hillenbrand, and Cary Quad Offices will remain open during the winter break.
  • Residents can sign up for Winter Break Housing if they wish to stay on campus. The deadline to sign up for Winter Break Housing is Tuesday, Dec. 2. Dining will be closed during winter break.
  • For those staying with us over Winter, on-call support will be available. On-call phone numbers will be posted in the lobby of each hall.
