President's Welcome
Purdue University has supported the United States military since our founding and will continue to do so. This year, we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Purdue Memorial Union —a permanent memorial to the Boilermakers who served in World War I. During World War II, Purdue housed and sponsored numerous programs in support of the military and the war effort. Today, hundreds of Purdue students are ROTC cadets and midshipmen, active-duty service members pursuing advanced degrees, reservists and Guard soldiers, or veterans.
To further support the United States military, the university has established the National Security Defense Council, composed of multiple offices that interact with the Department of Defense (DOD) and military-affiliated students. Its mission is to make Purdue a prominent university in support of national defense by increasing the coordination, collaboration and development of innovative military programs across our institution to enhance engagement with the DOD and broader national security efforts.
Our military-affiliated students continue to bring a wealth of experience and exemplary work ethic to our student population. We express our formal support for military- affiliated students across the Purdue system and vow to continue pursuing every effort to encourage their success.
