PMO is more than just a place where people gather and sing - it’s a home you can always return to and be welcomed back with open arms and, quite often, a song or two. My team (the amazingly talented Abi Bruno, Kerri Easton, Erin Wilson, & Molly Walker) and I brainstormed a handful of themes for this issue, but as we looked back on this collection of pieces, they all boiled down to the same topic: community.
When we sat down to chat with members of the All-Campus & Community Chorale about their time here, each one of them lit up while talking about their experiences. They felt a sense of belonging and fellowship during their time here as students and wanted to recapture that feeling of camaraderie, even if it was just for a couple hours on a Tuesday evening.
Back in October, when University Choir collaborated with Lafayette Master Chorale to perform Considering Matthew Shepard, every singer let their voice ring out to say hate has no home here or anywhere else. Moments like this remind us that we’re all in this together, sharing the same space, and it’s our responsibility to make sure everyone feels not only safe but celebrated, too.
During the 90th Annual Purdue Christmas Show this year, as I drove around on a golf cart, ferrying supporters from the University Street parking garage to Elliott Hall, I couldn’t help but feel pride in what PMO means to the local community as well, as thousands of people came together to kick off their holiday season with us.
I hope this publication feels like an open door and a hand outstretched, inviting you into this world, whether it’s for the first time or the ninetieth. Each one of you is a celebrated member of this community and plays an integral role as a supporter. So, on behalf of everyone at PMO, thanks for stopping in and we’re glad you’re here.
All the best,
Christopher Wolford
