Katie Sermersheim

Senior Associate Vice Provost & Dean of Students

Katie Sermersheim brings vast knowledge and experience to Purdue University as the dean of students. She has been the dean of students at Purdue since August 2015.

The Office of the Dean of Students consists of eight specialized areas that include the following: Center for Advocacy, Response and Education; Counseling and Psychological Services; Fraternity, Sorority and Cooperative Life; Off-Campus Housing; Student Health Services; Recreation & Wellness; Student Legal Services; and Student Rights and Responsibilities.

Prior to coming to Purdue, Sermersheim served Southern Illinois University Carbondale in several capacities over an 18-year tenure that included her roles as dean of students, associate dean of students, director of student development and assistant director of student development. Additionally, she has held professional positions in student affairs at Western Illinois University and St. Joseph's College.

Sermersheim received her doctorate in education with an emphasis in educational administration from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She has an MS in college student personnel from Western Illinois University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Southern Indiana.

Sermersheim has been an active member of professional organizations within student affairs, including College Student Educators International (ACPA) and National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). She has presented at numerous national conferences, including ACPA, NASPA, Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values, Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute, Association of Fraternity Advisors, National Association of Campus Activities, and multiple national fraternity and sorority functions.
