Faculty and Staff

A staff member is any person who is employed by the university in any capacity other than student employment, and who is not taking more than seven credit hours.

Purdue faculty and staff or Purdue Research Foundation employees may be eligible to purchase or renew one of the annual parking permits. Faculty or staff who work a remote or hybrid schedule may wish to use one or more of the following alternate parking arrangements instead of purchasing an annual permit:

Refer to the Downloadable Parking Map (PDF) to reference parking locations by permit type. All faculty and staff should review License Plate Recognition information to learn about the vehicle registration process and related details for parking enforcement. Learn more about "front plates" and the additional parking flexibility they provide.

Parking Rules, Regulations and Exceptions

Parking may be restricted at any time and for any reason, including athletic and special events, maintenance, construction or others. Posted restrictions in parking garages or lots will be enforced. Those who park in violation of posted restrictions may be subject to receiving a parking citation, or the vehicle may be towed at the owner's expense.

Use or possession of forged, stolen, altered, transferred or invalid permits may result in a citation, immobilization and/or towing of the vehicle, criminal charges, and/or disciplinary action through the university. View the Parking Tickets/Citations webpage for related information.

Vehicles may not be stored in any parking lot or garage for longer than 24 hours without permission from Parking Operations. Any vehicles in violation of this may be towed at the owner's expense.

All Traffic and Parking Regulations are available online (PDF).

Annual Parking Permits

Permit Types

The following annual parking permits may be available for purchase by faculty and staff and are valid through Aug. 15:

  • Presidential Reserved (Reserve/RE) permits may only be purchased by those holding positions designated as eligible by the President of the university. Contact parking@purdue.edu if you have an eligible position and need to purchase a new Presidential Reserved permit. Parking will coordinate the renewal of permits with individuals each year. Permits cost $1,000 each and must be paid for in full at the time of purchase.

  • "A" and "B" permits may be purchased by any regularly employed staff or faculty member or Purdue Research Foundation employee. "A" permits are valid in any “A”, “AB” or “ABC” space. "B" permits are valid in any “AB” or “ABC” space. The permit holder is responsible for any violations issued to vehicles linked to their permit. Permits may be used by the registered individual only. "A" permits cost $250 each, and "B" permits cost $100 each.

    • Regularly employed staff and faculty may choose to either pay the cost of an "A" or "B" parking permit in full or opt to use pre-tax payroll deduction at the time of purchase. If payroll deduction is selected as the payment method, the cost of the parking permit will be spread over 10 months from August to May. Payroll deductions are not utilized in June or July. Purdue Research Foundation employees may use payroll deduction through PRF. After April 1 of the academic year, all permits must be purchased in full. Payroll deduction is not an option after that date.

    • Students employed in graduate staff positions may also choose pretax payroll deduction. Temporary, adjunct and student staff are not eligible for payroll deduction.
  • "ID" permits are valid in any “A”, “AB” or “ABC” space only during the hours of 7-8 a.m. and 3-5 p.m. “ID” permits are not eligible for payroll deduction and are non-refundable. "ID" permits cost $20 each and must be paid for in full at the time of purchase.

To purchase or renew one of these permits, follow the instructions on the Purchasing a Permit webpage.

Individuals who spend time at both West Lafayette and Indianapolis locations should review information about parking permit reciprocity

Refunds

If a department, faculty or staff member or Purdue Research Foundation employee becomes ineligible for a parking permit or no longer needs it, requests for payment adjustments must be made prior to March 1 of the academic year. No prorated refunds will be issued beginning March 1.

Please note that not all permits are eligible for full or partial refunds.

Garage Access Cards

Individuals who purchase an eligible permit (Presidential Reserved, disability reserved and some “A” permits) may request a gated Garage Access Card at the time that the permit is purchased for the first time. Physical Garage Access Cards will be issued through campus mail. During the purchase process, faculty and staff should confirm that the campus department and building listed are correct for delivery purposes. License Plate Recognition (LPR) is the primary means to access the gated Grant Street and Harrison Street parking garages for those with an eligible permit; however, the Garage Access Card should be scanned to enter and exit if the license plate is not automatically read by LPR.

Existing permits with a Garage Access Card that are renewed for the following academic year will continue using the same Garage Access Card, which should be retained by the permit holder. If a permit lapses and is not renewed, the associated Garage Access Card will expire. Garage Access Cards will be deactivated if an employee leaves the university/PRF or employment is terminated.

Alternate Parking Options

Faculty and staff who work remote or hybrid schedules instead of regularly working on campus have additional parking permit options. In these instances, an annual parking permit may not be the most cost-effective option, and alternatives are listed below. Monthly and daily permits must be purchased online, paid for in full and are not eligible for full or prorated refunds.

Monthly Parking Permits

Short term "A" or "B" parking permits may be purchased for a period of one month. Non-temporary faculty and staff may choose the beginning date for the temporary permit during the purchase process, and the permit will expire one month from that date. The permit's effective dates will be shown in the online parking portal. These are valid in any "A" or "B" parking space, respectively, but may not be used in the Grant Street or Harrison Street parking garages. Monthly permits are virtual and do not include a Garage Access Card. Temporary "A" permits are $30 per month, and temporary "B" permits are $15 per month.

Daily Parking

Metered Parking

Pay-by-phone ("metered") parking is available at various locations on campus. Review the ParkMobile information for more details.

Hourly Garage Parking

Faculty or staff may park in either the Grant Street or Harrison Street parking garage and pay the following rates:

Hourly parking rates
Time Rate
0-30 Minutes $1.00
30-60 Minutes $3.00
Each Additional Hour $1.00
Maximum 24 consecutive hour period $10.00

Gated parking garages are cashless, and only debit or credit cards are accepted. Payment options include using the QR code on the ticket to pay with a mobile device, pay-in-lane at the exit or using the pay station in the lobby prior to returning to your vehicle (not available at the Harrison Street Parking Garage).

One-day Permit

With the purchase of a $5 daily permit, faculty or staff may park in any "A" space (unless restrictions are posted that indicate otherwise), excluding those in the Grant Street or Harrison Street parking garages.

"A" parking may be restricted at any time and for any reason, including near athletic facilities for events, due to maintenance or construction, or others. Posted restrictions in parking garages or lots will be enforced. Those who park in violation of posted restrictions may be subject to receiving a parking citation, or the vehicle may be towed at the owner's expense.

Daily faculty and staff parking permits must be purchased online and are not eligible for full or prorated refunds.
