All of CAPS services, except for psychiatric services, are free to student including brief phone screens, crisis consultations, initial consultations, group therapy, individual and couples therapy sessions, and care management services.
Costs for services vary based on service provided, insurance carrier and other factors. Discussions of this nature take place between the client and therapist if costs become an issue.
CAPS utilizes a combined treatment model whereby psychiatric and psychotherapy services are integrated, since medication is often most effective when combined with active engagement in psychotherapy. Routine referrals for an initial psychiatric evaluation typically occur during the course of established therapy work with a CAPS psychotherapist, although occasionally an expedited referral (based on specific criteria) may be made by a CAPS psychotherapist soon after initiation of services at CAPS. Referrals for psychiatric services can also be made by campus colleague psychotherapy providers. Effective August 7, 2017, initial psychiatric evaluation visits will carry a fee of $25. Follow-up medication management visits up to 30 minutes in length will carry a fee of $25. Follow-up medication management visits exceeding 30 minutes in length will carry a fee of $50. CAPS psychiatric providers are in-network with Purdue Student Resources Insurance.
Fee waiver applications are available for students determined to be in high financial need.
Effective July 1, 2017, CAPS will be the point of contact for all CAPS-related charges applied to student accounts or billed through your insurance. Questions regarding CAPS charges and fees will be answered by our front office staff.
Acceptable forms of payment will be debit or charge cards for same-day charges and payments, billing to your student account and billing to insurance. No-show fees can be paid on the day of service with a debit or charge card, or those fees will be sent to the Bursar and applied to your student account, which you can pay at your convenience.
CAPS will facilitate insurance billing for charges related to psychiatry. Insurance information will be gathered at check-in if your service will be billed to insurance. If you have questions, please ask our front office staff.
