Purdue in Indianapolis

CAPS is proud to serve our Indianapolis students and offers a variety of mental health and well-being services, both in-person and virtually, in order to best meet the needs of our Purdue Indy students.

CAPS Services

Scheduling An Initial Appointment

Students can initiate CAPS services by calling 765-494-6995 to schedule a brief phone screening appointment during which a clinician will gather information regarding the primary concern and collaborate with the student to make appropriate treatment recommendations (e.g., an initial consultation, group therapy, off-campus therapy, or other campus resources).

During your brief phone screening appointment, your clinician may decided that more assessment is needed before a clinical recommendation can be made. A longer assessment appointment, called the "initial consultation" will be scheduled. At this appointment, your clinician will answer your questions, review your situation in more depth, and determine an appropriate clinical recommendation. Please note that an initial consultation is required to be connected to brief-individual therapy or CAPS referred psychiatric services

Keep in mind:

  • You will need to find a quite and private space to receive the 30-minute phone call from Purdue CAPS.
  • There could be multiple outcomes including recommendation for an initial consultation, workshop, group therapy, off-campus referral, short-term individual therapy, or other campus or web-based resources.
Brief Individual Therapy
If individual or couple's therapy services are recommended, we work within a time limited, brief-individual therapy model. To learn more about our individual therapy services, please visit our Individual Therapy webpage.
  • In-person at (location)
  • Virtual via secure Zoom
Psychiatry

Beginning in Fall 2024, psychiatry services will be available to currently enrolled Purdue students at the Indianapolis campus who are struggling with mental health concerns and are actively engaged in therapy with a clinician at CAPS. In person psychiatric appointments will be available one day a week at the Indianapolis campus. In person appointments are also available five days a week (Monday-Friday) at the West Lafayette campus. CAPS' Psychiatry collaborates closely with therapists and primary care providers regarding the mental health care of students and provides medication evaluation and management.

Referrals for an initial psychiatric evaluation can be made by a CAPS therapist following an Initial Consultation appointment. CAPS utilizes a combined treatment model whereby psychiatric and therapeutic services are integrated.
