Mentor-Mentee Expectation Comparison
The Mentor-Mentee Expectation Comparison is a low-stakes inventory to help mentor-mentee pairs determine who is responsible for specific expectations. This version is adaptable to add/drop/change expectations (or tasks) specific to the mentored research experience. Prospective uses for this inventory, within the phases of mentoring, include:- During planning: Used by the mentor to determine specific expectations/responsibilities.
- During on-boarding a new mentee: Used by both the mentor and mentee to determine current responsibilities based on present skills/knowledge of the mentee.
- Throughout a research experience: Used by both the mentor and mentee to adapt responsibilities as the mentee develops skills/knowledge.
- During evaluation: Used by the mentor to evaluate (or by the mentee to self-evaluate) completion of responsibilities, quality of their work, and next steps.
