Requesting Data or Reports
We encourage all campus units to share their undergraduate research (UR) data with us! All shared data will be added to the OUR dataset and included then reported back to institutional stakeholders within campus divisions (e.g., college/school). Please contact us to discuss data collaboration, or read on for more information!
What data do the OUR maintain?
The Purdue University Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) is responsible for institutional reporting of UR experiences. The OUR uses any source of data identifying UR experiences. UR data are collected and used within a partnership between the OUR and peer institutional stakeholders.
Separately, the OUR collects data for IRB-approved research on UR experiences. These datasets are typically not sharable with campus partners who are not part of the IRB, but reporting resulting from these studies may be available.
Which experiences meet the definition of undergraduate research?
To understand the scope of UR experiences at Purdue University, please refer to these UR definitions.
How should UR data be tracked?
Please see this paper for a description of UR tracking at Purdue. For partners getting started, this downloadable excel file models basic tracking of the core UR fields.
When is a data MOU needed?
The OUR uses different memoranda of understanding (MOU) for these purposes:
- For institutional uses:
- To facilitate a partner’s sharing of their UR data with the OUR.
- To facilitate a partner’s access to and/or use of the OUR's data.
- For research partnerships between the OUR and a partner, to fulfill a specific research interest.
To get started, contact the OUR to request the MOU specific to your purpose.
What are the expectations for data sharing with the OUR?
Expectations for each purpose are described in the MOU forms.
What if I want a report, not a dataset?
The OUR receives requests from campus units such as, "What # of students engaged in a research experience?" If your need can be satisfied by a report (instead of a dataset) we welcome those requests too! In some cases, fulfilling this request for one unit means we can make the same reporting available for similar units. To get started, contact the OUR to request a worksheet designed to faciltate creating reporting to fit your needs.
